LGBT Support Projects in Africa
The sad truth is that many African countries still persecute their LGBT communities. Every year thousands of LGBT individuals are made homeless, face aggression, abuse and even violence simply for being who they are. With some countries such as Uganda and Nigeria instituting laws that make homosexual acts punishable by serious jail time, many of the LGBT population seek refuge in neighbouring countries that are slightly more tolerant.
There are a few brave individuals and organisations who have set up safe houses and support projects in these intolerant environments, providing what support they can to those affected by the prejudice that permeates the continent.
