TMGH Honorable mention from France

Mathieu Cardinal from France

Graduate of the Architectural School of Grenoble, I’m a 25 year-old French architect currently working for Patriarche - Office of Architecture.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Now and for a long time I think, I don’t know the role of the architect today in the society. Once a builder, then a thinker, I don’t and maybe won’t know it.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

I participate because it gives me the possibility to improve my personal skills and knowledge every step of the way. It allows me to be creative through the thinking steps and also to work rigorously on every step of the project.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

I’d say that this is the best thing to do. Through this kind of competition we improve ourselves. We create things and make mistakes forcing us to be better architect in real life work. Even a spelling mistake in the title seen after the last call is a lesson for the next project.
