Greg Corso of Syracuse NY-based SPORTS Collaborative is a designer from California. Greg received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has worked in art and architecture studios in the United States and Europe including Studio Gang, JDS Architects, and Cliff Garten Studio and has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony. Greg has taught architecture and design at Woodbury University, The University of Illinois at Chicago, and is currently an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University, School of Architecture.
Enlai Hooi is the Head of Innovation at Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in Copenhagen, Denmark. An architect and industrial designer with specialisation in integrating engineering fields in circular design and architecture, Enlai brings a diverse range of skills to the task of managing complex challenges in the built environment. He leads the firm’s sustainability approach and agenda on adaptive transformation, circular building methods, material health and participatory design strategies. Enlai has won numerous awards in both architecture and design. His experience in designs transgresses scales from product design through architecture to master planning, and his experience with structural environmental and mechanical engineers allows him to communicate fluently across professions.
Filipa Frois Almeida and Hugo Reis founded FAHR 021.3® in 2012 in Porto. FAHR 021.3 is an internationally awarded creative and experimentalist studio, which (un)focuses its work between Art and Architecture. Deriving from the German word Erfahrung (experience), FAHR 021.3 stands up as a lab studio developing conceptual strategies on the brink of unexpected, contradiction, and decontextualisation. The restlessness and the constant desire to seek new solutions, give rise to a variety of performances differing on manifesto, temporary, scale and materials.
Gonçalo Marrote is an architect and CEO at Madeiguincho, based in Cascais, Portugal. The seeds that gave birth to Madeiguincho were planted by Gonçalo’s grandfather, who taught the art and secrets of carpentry to Gonçalo’s father. Officially open since 1990, Gonçalo started to collaborate with Madeiguincho in 2005. After finishing his studies in Architecture and postgraduate studies in Sculpture, he lived and worked abroad in India, the United States and Australia. After returning to Portugal in 2014, he is now leading Madeiguincho as CEO and Architect, joining three generations of knowledge in carpentry, architecture and art.
David Montalba is the Founding Principal of Montalba Architects, a diverse architecture and design studio of over 60 designers based in Santa Monica, California with a satellite office in Lausanne, Switzerland. The firm is engaged in retail, residential and other select commercial projects across the United States and abroad. Believing that architecture and one's environment can truly improve quality of life, David’s approach is a humanistic one, which often leads to solutions that are discrete, contextual, yet conceptual in their intent, effect, and appeal. David’s diverse background as an architect includes over 26 years of professional practice, and this work has been recognized in various publications and with numerous awards, including the AIA’s National Young Architect Award in 2008, a 2019 AIA Institute Honor Award, and over 100 other design awards.
James Whitaker is founder of London-based Whitaker Studio. James is a registered architect and studied architecture at The University of Edinburgh, where he also taught animation and multimedia. He has worked in London and Hong Kong in the studios of Thomas Heatherwick and Ron Arad on a variety of projects, big and small. James's photography work has been exhibited widely and published internationally, from the BBC Culture Show to Architecture New Zealand. Whitaker Studio’s Joshua Tree Residence was the most popular project on Dezeen in 2017.
The Spirala Community Home Competition is part of Buildner’ Small Scale Architecture Appreciation Movement showcasing small projects that contain big ideas. Designers are tasked with submitting ideas for a community home to be located in the heart of the Spirala Ecological Village in northern Portugal. Winning entries will be considered for construction.
