Architecture Competition San Francisco Affordable Housing Challenge Honourable mention - SEJONG UNIVERSITY

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the Honourable mention winners for our “San Francisco Affordable Housing Challenge” competition -  Hyeonseok Kim, Heegon Kim and Donghwa Kim from Korea.

Hyeonseok Kim, Heegon Kim and Donghwa Kim from Korea

We are currently studying at Sejong University in Seoul. We are all in the same grade and studying together. We have known each other since 2014 and started preparing for this competition in April. We have competed and helped each other together. Things like these make us think thoroughly and deeply about architecture.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

When it comes to architecture, I have lots of things to say. Every time I start a project, I feel like it is a different thing from what I have done. It is really complicated and sometimes  metaphysical. However, I walk, study, exercise, eat, sleep, talk, laugh, meet and stay at, in, with THE ARCHITECTURE.

Therefore, architecture is essential and inevitable in both my life and yours. On the other hand, people don't really care about what architecture and architects are. It is essential and inevitable, so they genuinely take that for granted. I just wish that they'd come to know how much time and effort we put into it and that we think about a project more than you think.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

Thinking about a vision for a specific part makes me grow by studying unknown cultures, studies and situations. Also, my vision could make the globe change. No one knows what will create change and which idea could change our future. Therefore, I consider the problems that are going on and try to create a solution. This small effort could help and change someone’s life or some place’s problems.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Try and go get it. You can change the world.
