Architecture competition "Nemrut Volcano Eyes" Honorable mention - Chun Fei Wong and June Yong

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winners of one of our Honorable mentions for the “Nemrut Volcano Eyes” competition - Chun Fei Wong and June Yong from Malaysia!

Chun Fei Wong and June Yong from Malaysia

Chun Fei and June are both graduates from UCSI University, Malaysia since 2014. Having several years of professional training experience in Malaysia & Singapore, we are grateful to gather some exposures on projects on a different scale, ranging from small public installations to international large-scale urban design. Due to our natural enthusiastic character, we collaborate to do competitions together to challenge ourselves in different platform.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?

June likes to experiment and explore new building typology regardless of its scale. Other than professional practices, her interest in architectural psychology and interactive art brings out her sensitive edge to understanding users’ needs and core values of architecture.

Whereas with a deep interest in the relationship of nature and manmade, Chun Fei likes to explore new possibilities of how the current local fauna can coexist with the new artistic and architectural additions, or projects that are sensitive not just to the site but to users of architecture as well.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

We believe that architecture is something different from building. It is a built realisation of a particular concept, or idea that embodies and is formulated in a unique, and not merely generic way. Given the leading role of the architect in how cities are envisioned and designed, architects can be seen as operators who owns the ability to affect the lives of others in daily life with their design, for better or for worse.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

Architecture vision competitions are fun. They offer a good platform to experiment new ideas and explore different approaches to architecture.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Circumstances can never stop one from moving forward, but the fear of having to try does!
