Architecture Competition Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center Student prize winner – ZACHODNIOPOMORSKI UNIWERSYTET TECHNOLOGICZNY W SZCZECINIE

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the Student prize winners of our “Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center” competition – Kinga Gawlik and Piotr Rajewski from Poland!

Kinga Gawlik and Piotr Rajewski from Poland

We are students in the fifth year of studies in the field of architecture and urban planning. Our common work started four years ago. During this time, we have participated in many architectural competitions. In the meantime, we have been gaining experience in architectural studios.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/individuals have been involved?

Both with student projects and architectural competitions, we usually choose large objects with public functions. Our favorite project so far was called MAME Florence, for which we received an honorable mention.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

For us architecture is a way of life that defines our daily choices and draws attention to the relationship between the space and the functioning of society. The role of the architect in our society is still insufficiently appreciated, although part of society begins to see the value of good space and architects behind them.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

This is a chance to create an interesting concept not defined by money. And besides, this is a good opportunity to present our solutions to the many problems with which the world today is measured.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Contests allow you to gain valuable design experience and develop creativity. We believe that for students of architecture it is necessary to take part in competitions, so they can test their skills.
