Architecture competition Adelaide Creative Community Hub Student award - Austral University of Chile

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winner of the Student award of our “Adelaide Creative Community Hub” competition - Banny Fabian Sandoval Salinas from Chile!

Banny Fabian Sandoval Salinas from Chile

I graduated as an architect from the Austral University of Chile, Faculty of Architecture and Arts, in which I developed academically as a proactive student, who has faced cities, which are constantly growing and bring new challenges. These are the results of great professional ethics and a leadership role that allows me to solve the problems that the urban world faces daily; generating innovative projects through a critique of reality, where the processes of experimentation and research creation of a transdisciplinary character.

In the area of project generation, I work from sustainable architectural / urban models and territorial ordering. In that context, I try to base decisions on design through the elaboration of a concept, considering the observation and synthesis of different aspects of space, as well as the critical and reflexive interpretation of theories and architectural experiences. At the same time, I design projects through the organization of the elements of space, the incorporation of structural, material, normative and economic criteria associating themes of comfort, environment and energy. The work of architecture generates them in their different scales, considering different supports and formats, qualitative and technical in an innovative and effective way, being competent in the scope of the implementation of processes of socio-cultural transformation through projects in and from the communities.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of the architect in your society?

For me, architecture means "a point on paper, to which I give movement to generate a line and to this line I give the ability to generate life" The role of the architect in society has to be reflected in his ability to manage the critical resources oriented to the implementation of design proposals, made through the integration of effective communication skills and strategic decision-making in teams of work and establishing networks of collaboration. In this sense it is very important the new approach an architect has to have in order to design from the human scale, orienting it towards the sustainability of social life and the environment.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

Because I have found them a great opportunity to express the way to make architecture on a human scale, through the vindication of previous concepts. When I had some freedom to design, but at the same time respecting certain parameters of design, i had the opportunity to design from the other side of the world for a place that has been recognized worldwide for having great potential in every field, and was the gateway to the new look of architecture.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

The advice that I would give you from the point of view of a young student of architecture, is that life is lived only once, if you want to prove yourself to be the best at what you like to do, it takes the decision and challenge, because at the end of everything, you will realize that regardless of the result, you could push yourself to your limits, where these architectural vision contests put your knowledge to the test.
